Hundreds of people breached the major airport in the Dagestan region of Russia (which borders Azerbaijan and the country of Georgia to the south). The rioters were looking for Jews from a flight arriving from Israel. Russian news sources reported the crowd was chanting antisemitic slogans and forcibly checking the passports of arriving passengers.

In his second prime-time Oval Office address as President, President Biden explained why Americans should support funding Israel and Ukraine in their ongoing conflicts. President Biden makes the case that America's national security depends on the success of Israel and Ukraine. When talking about the Israeli-Hamas war, the President said, "“Hamas does not represent the Palestinian people", making clear distinctions between Palestinians and Hamas.

Israel is planning an attack against Hamas in Gaza. A coordinated attack from the air, land, and sea seems very likely. Israel confirmed that it had indicators that something was happening in Gaza two hours before last week's attack.

Hamas has fired thousands of rockets into Israel. Hamas militants have also invaded Israel, the first invasion of Israeli soil since 1948, and have taken an unknown number of civilians hostage. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared the attacks an act of war.

Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States turned 99 on Sunday, October 1st. The Carter Center created a digital mosaic made up of thousands of people, which turns into a picture of Jimmy Carter when zoomed out. Besides his time as President, former President Carter built numerous homes for the poor with the organization Habitat for Humanity, he set up the global Guinea Worm Eradication Program, which has nearly eradicated the Guinea Worm parasite.

Side note: In 2021 President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden visited former President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter at the Carter's house in Plains, Georgia. It was also reported at the time that Jimmy Carter was sick. Not too long after that visit, I decided to type a short letter to Jimmy Carter. In it, I thanked him for his decades of public service and humanitarian efforts and wished him a speedy recovery. Here is the message I received from Jimmy Carter.
